Lucy week 003

Lucy - Week 3 (pose 2)
Lucy - Week 3

Today marks the beginning of the third week of having Lucy in the family and the last week has been quite a set of milestones for her.

  • 32lbs today, I am predicting her to be 120 lbs by the time she hits two
  • Lucy now runs on the treadmill without a leash, usually 2 to 3 times / day
    • 15 minute runs, 4MPH at an incline of 2 or more
  • Lucy has already surpassed Oakley in the art of dog walking (that's not as good as it might sound, Oakley has always sucked at the walk)
  • Lucy is house broken, while puppies, like young children, don't always give themselves a lot of notice, she always attempts and most often succeeds at making it to the back door with a scratch to let her out, now if we can only get the children to pay attention :-)
  • Oakley has had her nose out of joint since Lucy came, we are speculating why but one thing is clearly different between the two; where Oakley has always been friendly to humans, she has always been initially timid to other dogs and to most new things really, it has been like that since she was a puppy. Lucy, on the other hand, is proud, confident, and unafraid in virtually everything she does. She is not at all timid towards new things, she just tackles them;  it is obvious that Oakley will lose her status as budding top-dog (with the declining health of Willow Oakley knows she can now beat the older but larger dog, though that transition is still underway), perhaps Oakley recognizes it as well. In any case, this past week saw the two interact quite a bit more and Oakley starting to warm up to Lucy a bit.
  • Lucy has taken a liking to our living room sofa and the pillows that lie on top, no real destruction as yet but it does seem difficult to stop her doing this so far.... she is just a puppy after all; diligence is all it takes.

Check out this video of her sucking her blanket, something we assume she picked up during the hours of solitude she must have had at the Humane Society (she was there for almost 6 weeks apparently). I am pretty sure she'll stop all together soon, she was doing it two or three times a day at first, now it's at most once per day and I don't think she did yesterday at all. She must not need the comfort any more.
