Lucy week 002

Lucy - Week 2
  • 28 lbs this week
  • Lucy runs on the treadmill for at least 15 minutes every day (up to 4MPH now)
  • Lucy sleeps in her kennel, happily going in on her own
  • Lucy jumps up on our bed in one bound; last week she couldn't get up at all
  • Lucy sucks her blanket and kneeds it while she does (man that is cute!)

Lucy gave me a bloody nose this week. To be fair, "bloody nose" doesn't quite do it justice. You know that little bit of cartlidge between our nostrils? And you know how my nose isn't on the small end of the spectrum. But I bet you didn't know there was enough room in there to fit an upper canine of a puppy ... a very sharp dagger-like tooth. Well, it it does and fits very well in fact!

Now with three dogs and puppies every 6 years or so, I'm not unfamiliar with a bite and I know the thing to do is to stay still. If there is going to be any damage it will come from ripping your skin out of the dog's mouth. Unfortunately, this incident came at just before 6am while lying in bed, before my morning coffee, hell before my morning pee! and I just wasn't thinking quite yet.

So yes, I jerked my head just after she put that pointy little tooth deep into my nose; I jerked my head but that did not disengage the dog, oh no! It only sent her flying to the other side of my face with the tooth still firmly in place. Now I not only had a puppy tooth in my nose, I had a puppy chest in my mouth which did not remove the distinct flavour of fresh blood now flowing freely down my face.... See more

Interestingly, my howls of pain did not seem to affect her at all, at least not negatively, and if I'm not mistaken I'm sure I heard her giggling.
