Living in the City

The new neighbour's new addition
The new condos (you can just see the crane in the background)
My backyard view from the deck
Can I get out of my driveway, please?

I am, I think, quite lucky in that I get to work out of my house for a great deal of my working day, though I do have to travel occasionally and sometimes for extended periods, most of the time you can find me in one of the rooms in my house, my backyard office or (whenever the weather allows) sitting on my deck. It makes no difference to the work that I do, it is always tasks that must be performed on a computer and wireless technology is so enabling. I have a really beautiful backyard to sit and enjoy, as I think the attached photography attests to and because we are right in the city's core there is little construction to worry about. Or so we thought.

As I write this immediately to my left they are pouring foundations for the new addition on the house; On my right they are building some sort of elaborate decking to enhance their disappointingly small backyard; in front of me, but thankfully hidden from view, they just started digging the holes for the new 4-story condo project; and to my back, on our street, they just started tearing up the street to replace sewers and water mains. This city is alive!

Reading this I imagine you would think all this noise distracting, and I suppose the fact that I'm writing this blog and not being "productive" suggests that is true, on some level. I have to say I am not at all upset by it all. I suppose as this goes on for months the novelty will wear away, but for now at least it makes me pretty happy to be alive.
